Carol Murphy, soft pastel artist
After enjoying a career in advertising and marketing, Carol Murphy began to pursue painting in soft pastels, specializing in portraits and scenic images from her travels.
And then one day while doodling, the doodles turned into squiggles and her current pastel technique “kinetic color” was born. It has now become a trademark of her unique imagery.
Beginning with simple shapes and simple designs, Carol applies a fabric of brightly-colored interwoven line work. Layers of different colors intertwine, with the background color peeking through to additional effect.
While inspiration comes from all spectrums of life, what Carol enjoys most about her current work is showcasing the vibrancy of pastels as a medium. There is something joyful about the circular, patterned lines and the bright, juxtaposing colors seen in Carol’s work. And that’s exactly what she includes in every piece of her lively pastel artwork.
