Barbara Jacobs

Barbara Jacobs

I’ve been a lifelong artist and, since 1984, continue to enjoy working as a color design professional for architecture and interiors. Since arriving in Sebastopol in 2015, I’ve renewed my personal artwork explorations. Study at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy, was followed by studies in painting and printmaking at UC Berkeley, then a fine arts degree in those subjects from University of Minnesota.

Work is in some private collections and has been exhibited in various ways over the years, including murals and by commission. Most pieces are pastels—with mixed-media, painting and monotype also an important component. Personally, I enjoy connecting with people about my own artwork and that of others.

Ultimately it’s about communicating imagination. My own technical approach is to create examples of combining materials and layers for a specific visual result that is, for the most part, abstract in nature. Nothing is what it might seem to be in this group of work.

Imagery is inspired by sources like travel, nature, and immediate environment; and human experiences such as relationships, interactions, personal history. I have a fascination with architecture, archeology, history on a larger scale, astronomy, and more.
